Oregon Dunes Drift Into Cape Perpetua Discovery Series March 26

Yachats, OR – Spanning more than 40 miles, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is the longest expanse of coastal sand dunes in the United States. Stretching from Florence to Coos Bay, the Oregon Dunes attract more than 1 million visitors each and is recognized for its unique habitat amid the temperate rainforests of the Oregon Coast range.

But where did all that sand come from?

Author and Dunes enthusiast Dina Pavlis will present “Secrets of the Oregon Dunes” at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at the next Cape Perpetua Winter Discovery Series, 2400 S. Highway 101, three miles south of Yachats. Pavlis will share photos, stories and knowledge gained from living and playing within the Oregon Dunes. Participants will learn the origins, shapes and future of the Oregon Dunes.

The Cape Perpetua Winter Discovery Series is an opportunity to explore topics and resources relevant to the Oregon Coast during the off-season months between November and March. All presentations and events are free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport, federal recreation pass or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.

For more information, contact the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center at 541-547-3289.
