Turns out it was a drunk driver that rear-ended a bus – injured his own passenger
From Newport Police:
Newport Police Officers responded Saturday night to a vehicle crash at SW Pacific Ave and S Coast Highway (southeast end of Yaquina Bay Bridge) during Seafood and Wine. A bus transporting festival go’ers from Seafood and Wine turned north from SE Pacific Avenue onto the Yaquina Bay Bridge approach. A small vehicle, driven by Shane A. Huddleston, age 40 of Albany, was traveling north on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear end of the bus. The car sustained major damage. The bus sustained only minor damage.
No one on the bus was injured. Car driver Huddleston sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released from Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. A passenger in the car, Taylor Cuilty, 21 of Corvallis, sustained serious injuries.
Huddleston was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of DUII, and Reckless Driving. His bail was set at $30,000. The Newport Police Department reminds everyone that it’s important to designate a sober driver before an event or, make arrangements for alternate transportation.
