Cliven Bundy is 69 years old. The charges against him, while he’s being held in the Multnomah County Jail, total 91 years in prison if he’s convicted in Federal Court of an array of charges in connection with what was termed “a massive armed assault” on federal agents trying to remove Bundy’s illegally grazing cattle on BLM lands northeast of Las Vegas in 2014.
Those same charges are being lodged against his two sons, Ryan and Ammon Bundy who led the illegal take-over and occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge 30 miles southeast of Burns. The elder Bundy is expected to be flown back to Nevada to face a federal court in Las Vegas. He was arrested by federal agents as he got off an airliner at PDX Airport from where he expected to rent a car and drive to Burns to support his two sons who held the refuge hostage until two members of a local ranching family were released from prison. The Hammond father-son duo were convicted of arson and destruction of property by setting unauthorized wild land fires near their home outside of Burns.
