For the first time ever, the Newport Symphony Orchestra is issuing a general invitation to the public to dine with NSO conductors Adam Flatt and David Ogden Stiers. All proceeds from the dinner will go to benefit children’s music education in the Newport Youth Symphony of the Oregon Coast.
The dinner, on Thursday, January 28, at the Best Western Agate Beach ballroom, will also include an intimate performance by mezzo-soprano Erica Brookhyser as a preview of her upcoming concerts with the Newport Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Brookhyser, born and raised in Newport, earned music degrees from the University of Oregon and the New England Conservatory, and spent the final two years of her training at the L.A. Opera’s prestigious Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program under Placido Domingo.
She rose to operatic fame after winning the title role of Carmen in an international talent-search television program that aired in Germany and France. In 2010, she was appointed principal mezzo soloist at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In her young career, Ms. Brookhyser has also sung important roles with the Los Angeles Opera, the L.A. Master Chorale, and the Boston Lyric Opera.
Dinner guests will get a chance to meet and see this international singing sensation up close as she returns to her hometown for a special weekend of performances.
Beginning with a sparkling wine reception at 6:00, the dinner will include four fabulous courses with complimentary wine and drinks. Remarks from Adam Flatt and David Ogden Stiers will give an exclusive preview of the NSO’s exciting summer festival and new developments behind the scenes. Each guest will also receive a free raffle ticket for the boisterous and ever-popular drawing for bottles of fine wine.
This special dinner event will be held for the first time ever at a larger venue, the Best Western Agate Beach ballroom (3019 N Coast Hwy in Newport), in anticipation of a large outpouring of community support for Newport-native, international opera star Erica Brookhyser as she returns to her hometown.
Music lovers can help support the next generation of young musicians by buying a ticket to this special fundraising dinner for only $75. All funds will benefit the volunteer-run Newport Youth Symphony of the Oregon Coast. Local music education programs are woefully underfunded and in desperate need of your support.
Ticket prices are all inclusive, featuring a sparkling wine reception, a four-course dinner and drinks, a free raffle drawing for fine wines, remarks by the maestros, and an exclusive musical performance by Erica Brookhyser.
The deadline for dinner reservations is Monday, January 25. Please reserve your seat today and choose your preference for seafood, meat, or vegetarian options.
