January 11 update: After the dog was taken in earlier this evening by a kind-hearted Waldport resident, the original owner contacted him, and after a short drive, Keiko and his owner were reunited. The rescuer said that Keiko was vigorously wagging his tail and licking his owner’s face. Fortunately, an exceptional ending to this story!
A small black dog resembling a schipperke, with a white patch on its chest, was seen running down Hwy 101 south of Cape Perpetua near the Strawberry Hill wayside entrance. Several people stopped to try to rescue it but it ran away from everyone and no one could catch it. It finally ran into the brush on the east side of Hwy 101 about 100 yards north of the Strawberry Hill entrance, just where the guardrail begins. The ditch there was very steep and brushy. The person who got closest to it said the dog had tags.
If you hear of anyone looking for such a dog, please share this information.
