Like a page out of the Wild West – disgruntled self-appointed protectors of the U.S. Constitution scheduled a show-of-force rally Saturday in Burns to urge a local rancher and his son, sentenced to federal prison for arson on federal lands, to refuse to show up for prison. The vigilantes, some of whom participated in the notorious Clive Bundy show-down near Las Vegas, demanded the Harney County Sheriff harbor the father and son in the county jail for protection.
Tensions around the county were running high so some residents called a town meeting at the fairgrounds to let everybody talk things over and “cool off.”
