The U.S. Geological Service reports that a 4.5 Richter earthquake struck Friday evening about 40 miles southwest of Eureka, CA, just below the Oregon-California border.
The shaker struck at 9:11pm and local law enforcement received a number of phone calls from residents reporting feeling shaking but there was no damage or injuries.
There was no tsunami associated with the quake.
This evening’s quake may have been related to one last Monday that pushed the Richter a little higher at 4.9 and carried a few aftershocks and originated in the same vicinity. It originated at a depth of around five miles – rather shallow compared to other quakes in the area with depths of 15 to 20 miles.
