Coos Bay’s main artery – Highway 42 to I-5 – is down for at least a week – maybe longer

Looks like a complete a 101-Beverly Beach type problem. May take a while to fix.

All the rain over the past month has taken a big toll on homes, rivers and highways – including Highway 42 that is the main connector between Coos Bay/North Bend and the valley.

Those traveling to and from Coos Bay to the valley, including a lot of commercial rigs, will now have to drive north 26 miles to Reedsport and then cut over to the valley on Highways 38 and 138. At least as long as it takes to shore-up the hillside and rebuild the road. And it will take a while.
