On Christmas Eve a serious injury crash on HWY 18, roughly two miles east of Otis, sent two drivers to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland where they were listed in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation revealed a Nissan Maximum, driven by Richard L. Loy Jr, 34, Lake Oswego, was traveling westbound when it crossed the center-line. The Nissan struck an eastbound Dodge Dakota driven by Bobby Kress, 59, Otis,Oregon. Both drivers had to be cut out of their vehicles. They both initially were transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. It’s not unknown if either driver was wearing their seat belts. The investigation is continuing.
The highway was closed for approximately five hours and a detour was established.
