A fishing boat tied up at the dock in Depoe Bay sank recently – the 34 foot Fishing Vessel Siamez – settling right down on the bottom of the bay – next to it’s dock.
The owner of the F/V Siamez said a series of heavy waves pounded the inside of the harbor and dislodged a finger pier which bashed a hole in the side of the vessel.
Down it went, sitting on the bottom with just a small amount of its superstructure visible above the water.
Siamez owner Rick Hall hired some divers to put air bags in strategic locations and raised the vessel back to the surface. Floating ballast bags and a 24/7 pump are keepin the Siamez afloat.
Saturday Mr. Hall had the boat lifted out of the bay and onto a truck and trailer and had it taken north to Scapoose simply for salvage. The owner said any repairs would exceed the price of what the Siamez is worth. He said he’s insured and looks forward to shopping for another vessel.
