Depoe Bay Fire and Rescue was called to a report of a house fire at the Sea and Sand Mobile Home Park off 101 in Lincoln Beach early this morning.
An elderly female inside said she was awaked just before 6am to the sound of popping and the smell of smoke. She immediately got out of bed and realized her home was ablaze at one end and so she fled to a neighbors house and called 9-1-1.
Arriving firefighters said the wind was blowing very hard which fanned the flames and that there was little they could do to save the home. They immediately switched tactics to ensure no adjoining homes were threatened. The woman’s home was a total loss.
The Red Cross is arranging temporary shelter for her.
Fire Chief Josh Williams told News Lincoln County they haven’t yet figured out the cause yet. The homeowner also DID NOT HAVE A SMOKE ALARM. Goes without saying that she was very lucky she got out safely by having good enough ears to wake her up to the popping sound of burning materials.
