A bright fire on a hillside, south of the Yachats River, triggered a call to 9-1-1 that a brush fire had erupted up there. The caller said it didn’t look like a control burn. The fire was pegged as burning near milepost 2 of North Yachats River Road, well above the river.
But as it turned out, Yachats Fire Chief Frankie Petrick said that the location of the fire is exactly where a logging operation control burn was authorized and that the operation will continue to burn slash associated with logging operations through tomorrow night.
The call out for firefighters was cancelled.
