Report of a small fire that has burned up an outside wall of the abandoned Elks Lodge building at 22nd and 101, just north of the Lincoln City Community Center. A passerby told 9-1-1 that the fire appeared to have started with some old magazines burning up against an outside wall and the fire ignited part of it.
Fire units are enroute. Description sounds like it’s a slow moving fire thanks to recent rains.
The Lincoln City City Council this week toyed with the idea of buying the old building to tear it down and make room for a new Lincoln City Senior Center. However, the council contends the Elk’s Lodge itself is worthless due to the high cost of removing asbestos inside it. They’ve indicated that the small parcel it sits on is probably worth about as much as it’ll cost to tear down the building.
