A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for a storm system that will likely bring the first significant rain of Fall 2015 to the Pacific northwest this weekend. Confidence in details remains low, but those planning outdoor activities should be prepared for a wet weekend and possibly some abrupt rises on area rivers. Also, consider clearing leaves from nearby street drains this week to reduce ponding of water over the weekend. Snow levels may also lower below the Cascade passes late in the weekend, bringing the first Winter-like conditions to the mountain highways this season. At this point, it appears that Santiam, McKenzie and Willamette Passes and the Timberline Highway will be most susceptible to travel impacts late in the weekend and/or early next week.
