The Grand Ronde Tribe has announced they have acquired the old dog racing track in Wood Village, just east of Portland. Although the tribe claims that “mixed uses” at the facility would be a good idea, insiders say the tribe has been nervously eyeing other tribal casino activity in the region. The Cowlitz Tribe has been trying to establish a new casino north of Vancouver. Of course Grand Ronde’s Spirit Mountain Casino Resort doesn’t want any more competition in the region and so the move to buy the track just outside of Portland could be viewed as a move to head off such competition.
