A mother and her infant child miraculously survived a rollover accident that landed them upside down in South Beaver Creek late Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses say mom and baby were northbound on South Beaver Creek Road when, for some reason, their car started sliding and went off the road, rolling into the creek – the vehicle coming to rest on its top in the water.
Somehow the mother managed to free herself and grab her baby and crawl out from under the car, up the bank and back up to the road. From there she walked a good quarter mile, carrying her baby, to the nearest house (to the south). The resident called 9-1-1.
Arriving fire rescue personnel lifted the car up to make sure there wasn’t anyone else inside.
Both mother and baby were transported to PCH in Newport to check them out. Neither seemed seriously injured.
It was determined that the car did NOT leak any fluids into the creek.
The road was very slick with fog mist at the time of the accident. However, investigators are looking into whether other factors may have contributed to the accident.
