The City of Waldport is now holding a three day series of public hearings and informative briefings from representatives of Urban Fields Studio which has studied the 12 acre open space site where Waldport High School once stood.
These meetings are the best way for those interested to get their ideas considered for the future of the site. It’s the LAST CHANCE for public opinion to shape what will be a major public facility for recreation for decades to come.
This morning’s walk around of the site generated some exciting concepts:
*The site’s south edge (topped by the steep hill up Crestline Drive) could form a natural sound box for a stage and sound system. That could provide a venue for performances from concerts to plays and even outdoor movies projected on a temporary screen.
*Waldport’s Public Works Department has vacated it’s old headquarters next to the waters of Lint Slough. Decks over the water’s edge may offer places of natural beauty to visitors to the Open Space site. If you have ideas, bring them to the “Shelter Me” building that was once Waldport’s Old Middle School located next to City Hall.
