The pleasure boat Reel Bad, crabbing in Yaquina bay, got itself hung up on a sandbar. Couldn’t get off.
The Coast Guard motorlifeboat could not get a line to it because they didn’t want to get stuck either. A surfer on the South Jetty was looking the situation over and decided to offer his services. The surfer padded out to the motorlifeboat and offered to take a line over to the stuck boat. The Coast Guard said okay – the surfer paddled the line over – it was hooked up to the boat and a short time later the rescue was complete!
Sometimes low tech works really well!!
