Friday afternoon Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic crash on South Crestline Drive at the intersection of Hospital Hill Road in Waldport. A witness reported the male driver was acting belligerent, waving a stick-like object at passing motorists. They said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The driver left the scene prior to deputies arriving, but he was located a short distance away and was soon identified as Edward Paul Holland Dunn, 26, of Waldport. Dunn failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUII. Dunn became highly combative and at one point Dunn spit saliva into a deputy’s face. Dunn was eventually subdued and placed in the backseat of a patrol vehicle where he made several attempts to escape. Dunn also caused damage to the prisoner compartment of the patrol vehicle, both while on scene and during the transport from Waldport to the Lincoln County Jail in Newport.
During the traffic crash investigation it was learned that Dunn had been driving recklessly with a car that he had taken from his ex-girlfriend’s house – without permission. Deputies say he had also violated a court restraining order, protecting his ex-girlfriend.
Edward Dunn was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Disorderly Conduct II, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief II, Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Harassment. Dunn’s bail was set at $190,000.
