From Devils Lake Water Improvement District
Toxin monitoring was completed at ten sites, and while visual indications show heavy to moderate concentrations of blue-green algae in most of the lake, all the toxin monitoring for Microcystin were below the 10 ppb recreational standard. However, please note that other toxins may be present, and that conditions can intensify rapidly. In fact preliminary microscopic investigation shows the presence of other blue-green algae (Anabaena) which are typically more toxic and can produce a multitude of toxins. Thus toxin values can change rapidly without much change in water quality appearance. Please also note that dogs and other animals are particularly susceptible, and thus the State of Oregon has created a provisional guideline of 0.2 ppb of Microcystin for dogs. Keep children and pets safe, and always look before you leap
