Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputies this week were deployed on a rescue mission to find two hikers lost in the Cascade Head Wilderness Area. A Search and Rescue deputy quickly managed to get cellular phone contact with one of the stranded hikers. The hiker said they had been attacked by bees and in trying to get away from them had fallen down an embankment and were now stranded on a ledge overlooking the Salmon River Estuary. Meanwhile, other Search and Rescue personnel were heading for the search area.
The hikers were able to use a “Where am I” locator program on one of their cellular phones to send a ‘screen shot’ to their rescuers indicating their approximate location. Using the screen shot, the team was able to get close enough to them to make voice contact. The team quickly deployed a rescue rope operation and got both hikers safely back up to the trail.
Another Mission Accomplished.
