INHOUSE Jazz TO FEATURE GUITAR TROMBONE DUO SUNDAY AUGUST 23
INHOUSE Jazz, a series of afternoon house concerts, invites small audiences to relax and listen to music within the comfortable setting of someone’s home. This informal atmosphere hosted by vocalist Annie Averre, offers an inviting and enjoyable experience music as would be experienced in a club, but without the noise associated with a restaurant or bar. Sunday August 23, the featured INHOUSE musicians are Christopher Woitach and John Moak, two players who truly enjoy working together, and will do so for this concert, in a unique configuration of trombone guitar duo.
By age 18 “Jazzy” John Moak was playing trombone with Ella Fitzgerald. His musical résumé includes gigs with such musical notables as Dave Brubeck, Branford Marsalis, Rosemary Clooney and Aretha Franklin. Throughout his career he has played with a long list jazz greats including Dave Brubeck, Jack Shelden, Herbie Mann, Diana Schuur, Clark Terry, Herbie Mann, Ken Peplowski, Slide Hampton, Nat Adderley, and Louie Bellson.
John appears on many recordings, most recently with Chuck Israel and has performed at the New Orleans, Newport, Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Growing up in Oklahoma he studied jazz from junior high, high school and beyond, graduating from University of Central Oklahoma. After college John moved to Jacksonville Florida to play and teach. In ’94 he moved back to Oklahoma City, teaching in three different colleges, kept busy playing in his jump/swing band, and doing studio work. In 2003 he moved to Southwest Florida where he performed as a jazz artist, orchestra musician, studio musician, private instructor and clinician. When the Oklahoma City native looked to resettle someplace with a vibrant jazz scene, Portland seemed perfect. In 2005 he came to Portland, OR where he has now become a well-respected member of the thriving northwest jazz scene.
Christopher Woitach is a jazz guitarist and composer living in Portland. Christopher has also played with many nationally and internationally known artists, including Bernadette Peters, Rich Little, Hank Roberts, Bob Mover, Tony Monaco, Mel Brown, and John Stowell. He regularly performs throughout the Pacific Northwest, and at jazz festivals in the U.S. and Canada. Woitach’s recordings have been played on broadcast and internet radio stations across the globe. They have received excellent reviews from such respected jazz publications as Jazz Improv and Cadence, and internet sites including Jazzguitar.de and Jazzreview.com.
