City Manager Ron Chandler, who has proclaimed that the Noreikis case is settled, told the council Monday night that no one has unduly pressured him on any subject, including apparently Chester Noreikis, who Chandler allowed to pay his past business license fees, with a vow to stay current on the one he now has.
In a peculiar turn of events, when it came time for the council to vote on whether to actually send the complaint to the Ethics Commission, under advice from City Attorney Richard Appicello, “Mr. Mayor, you have a conflict of interest,” Mayor Williams relinquished control of the gavel and the meeting to Council President Roger Sprague. Sprague called for a motion and Councilor Susan Wahlke offered it and it was seconded, to send the complaint, but sending it first for a thorough legal review by a neutral third party attorney familiar with such proceedings. So! Was City Attorney Richard Appicello the victim of undo pressure by someone? Again, everything’s confidential. We just may have to wait to see what the Ethics Commission does with it.
