Winners announced for Great Albacore Tuna BBQ Challenge
The Bent Brick Restaurant of Portland took home the grand prize in the professional division in the 2015 edition of The Great Albacore Tuna BBQ Challenge Saturday at the Port of Newport. Chef Ryan Mead took home the top prize over Homegrown Public House and Chef Kelsey Terry of Florence. People’s Choice Award went to Hook, Line and Sinker’s Chef Beatrice Kemp of Tualatin.
In the amateur division, Black Bee BBQ, a local team headed by Wil & Sarah Black won the title with last year’s champion Tuna Trolls with Jason & Katie Phillips and crew finishing second. The People’s Choice Award was won by Lorna Davis of the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce.
The event was a sell out for the second year in a row and was a presentation of the Port of Newport and the Oregon Albacore Commission benefiting the Newport Food Pantry and Operation Snackpacks emergency food programs for the city.
