As long as the weather’s great, the sun is bright and you have a hankerin’ for wonderfully gourmet barbecue Albacore Tuna…you’re in luck. Saturday, starting at 11am, next to NOAA headquarters in South Beach (with lots of nearby parking) it’s the 4th Annual Great Albacore Tuna BBQ Challenge.
Twenty teams of culinary experts, applying their “tuna smarts” to just-caught Albacore, fresh right out of the ocean! The competing teams are both professional as well as highly self-confident amateurs, all going for the big $3,000 top prize.
You’ll tour the “fields of preparation,” watching special recipe demonstrations, written versions of which you may take home free, courtesy of the Oregon Albacore Commission.
Also on hand will be a powerhouse brewery from Tillamook, the renown Pelican Brewery that will have four special brews on tap – free to ticket holders.
Also, a big Classic Car Show, courtesy of the Newport Bay City Cruisers.
Then at 3pm, IT’S TUNA TASTING TIME! where you’ll be able to sample all the culinary wizardry as applied to Albacore Tuna. You’ll vote and the winners will be announced!
Lots of fun, to be sure.
You can get your tickets on line at www.TunaBBQ.com. Adults $15, Students $10 and Kids $5. Proceeds go to the Newport Food Pantry and Operation Snack Pack which supplies emergency food to needy families and children.
