From North Lincoln Fire Rescue
North Lincoln Fire & Rescue’s Assistant Chief Doug Kerr is currently investigating a structure fire that occurred at approximately 12:30 am this morning at a three story coastal vacation home at 1090 NW 7th Court in Lincoln City.
Callers reported the fire at the top of the hill which engulfed the upper deck and extended into the brush above the home. Arriving NLFR firefighters spotted flames above and behind the home’s south side. Due to the steep nature of the location it prompted a second alarm.
Volunteer firefighters managed to extinguish the fire within minutes; however, flames had severely damaged the upper deck and a portion of the third floor and roof. “Crews did a great job”; stated Kerr, “there was only one narrow wooden stairway to reach the location of the fire along the side of the house”. Crews deployed a deck gun from one of the engines to “knock down” fire that was in the trees and vegetation on the hillside. There is no estimate of damage at this time.
Approximately 24 firefighters, six engines and additional rescues responded to the blaze. No one was injured and the occupants of the structure had gone to bed but then spotted the fire.
It serves as a good reminder during this dry summer to be very vigilant with outdoor fires. Until they’re dead out, never take your eyes off them.
