AmeriCorps volunteer Brenda Cabrera, from the Lincoln County School District’s Homeless Education and Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.) Center (left), delivers a school supply donation box to Janet DeSau at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (right). School supplies are needed again this year for our homeless and students from low income families.
Last year 397 stuffed backpacks were distributed in Newport to students grades K-12. For your convenience, collection boxes can be found at:
* Atonement Lutheran
* First Baptist
* First Christian
* First Presbyterian
* Newport Nazarene
* Ocean Unity
* Sacred Heart
* Yaquina Chapel
* St. Stephen Episcopal Churches
as well as Columbia and Washington Federal banks, Oregon State Credit Union, and Walmart until Aug. 10.
Donations may also be made through Rotary, The Salvation Army, and The Newport Elks. Assistance is needed to stuff backpacks and distribute them at the Back2school Bar-B-Q. To volunteer for either of these events or to make a donation after Aug. 10, please contact Joyce Atchley at 541-265-5222.
