A young unidentified man in the black and grey t-shirt was getting a good talking to by law enforcement Friday afternoon about climbing up the Alsea Bay Bridge, just north of Waldport.
The report came in late in the afternoon that a young dark haired man, wearing a black and grey t-shirt, was climbing up the north end of the bridge and that he had just about reached the arch’s first cross-member.
Suddenly the man stopped his ascent and headed back down to the bridge deck where he was met with arriving law enforcement that had raced with lights and sirens to the scene. No doubt the climber heard them from quite a ways away from up there. He must’ve known they were coming for him.
Back down on the bridge sidewalk police told the young man that it’s illegal to climb on the Alsea Bay or any other bridge. It wasn’t immediately announced whether the fellow got a citation. All witnesses could see was the officers getting back in their cars and driving off and the bridge and climber more properly walking across the bridge – not climbing it.
