During Coast Guard hearings reviewing an application to build the proposed Jordan Cove Liquid Natural Gas export terminal at Coos Bay, OSU marine geologist Chris Goldfinger told the hearing, “Don’t build it here. The Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake and following Tsunami will happen in our lifetime.” The Coast Guard dismissed his statement.
And so far, Goldfinger isn’t getting much traction with his employer either, Oregon State University, which has plans to construct a five-story marine science classroom building right next to HMSC, right in the Tsunami Zone.
Paul Revere on a horse comes to mind, but nobody’s giving Goldfinger much mind, apparently, any more than they gave the former state director of the Department of Geology and Minerals Industry, who said the building would be one of the first casualties of a major tsunami.
What’s an expert to do??
