LINCOLN CITY POLICE EXPERIENCE A BUSY FOURTH OF JULY
This years’ annual Fourth of July celebration in Lincoln City was a busy one for members of the Lincoln City Police Department. In addition to our normal patrol staffing, we had officers on overtime working various parts of the City. Most of those extra officers were assigned to the Taft area in addition to the beach itself.
Preliminary information gathered shows that Lincoln City Police issued 12 vehicle/driver citations consisting of five speeding citations, and two cell phone use citations. Citations were issued for fail to register motor vehicle, no proof of insurance, no valid operator’s license, and no Oregon driver’s license and for fail to obey a traffic control device. In addition, 22 parking citations were issued for either parking in a prohibited area or parking improperly. There were approximately 61 calls for service during the time frame between 6:00 PM and 1:00 AM.
There was also a fair share of illegal fireworks that were observed and confiscated during the evening. It is estimated that approximately 500 pounds were confiscated, but no citations were issued.
During the holiday week end from 6:00 PM Friday until 7:00 PM Sunday there were eight traffic collisions.
Lincoln City Police appreciates the assistance received from the Lincoln City Police Reserves, Toledo Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse and Oregon State Police Volunteers.
