Dear 45,000 Readers:
Yup, there’s a lot of you out there. And I want thank all of you for taking valuable time out of your eventful days to allow us to keep you up to date on the major stories developing along the Central Coast. And occasionally some “inland” stuff too.
Secondly we’d like to thank all of you who also “get it” that since NewsLincolnCounty.com signed on in early 2010 the overall quality of news coverage at other Lincoln County news outlets has improved quite noticeably.
We’d like to take some credit for that. There’s four times the number of reporters on the streets of Lincoln County than in 2009. Competition is always good.
And the good news is that this hometown form of internet journalism – REAL community journalism – is here to stay. Actually, it’s happening all over the country.
But as optimistic as all that sounds, there is something I’d like to bring up with you folks. Although we cover the day-to-day-news pretty well, there are other dimensions in producing a community “touchstone” that deserves exploring. And these home-grown internet outlets are springing up in many communities across the country. I’m talking about publications that invite the community to so embrace their local internet news outlet(s) that you can almost hear it breathe on-line. Fast, accurate and MEANINGFUL INFORMATION so they can ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND what is REALLY GOING ON.
But to be true to the truth, such internet news outlets REALLY belong to their communities. Extreme corporate profits are not part of their mission. Quality information is JOB ONE…THROUGH TEN! And the more voices that are heard and read on the internet outlet, the better it’s doing its job.
So I want to encourage everyone to think about how they might find it meaningful and challenging to contribute to the “touchstone” that is already updated many times a day. We already know you love to send us photos – of what’s beautiful and engaging about Lincoln County – as well as what makes us sad – and what needs improving. We’d just like to bump it up a notch or ten.
So drop us an email about what might interest you in giving a different flavor or texture to information that is floating around Lincoln County – information that doesn’t make the headlines but ought to – or at least “be in there, somewhere.” In other words, help make News Lincoln County breathe, for everyone.
There are many issues coming in from the outside world that need to be discussed, as well as information welling up from within Lincoln County that are not being properly explored. The door’s wide open.
So let’s take this conversation to the next level. Send us an email…send us 10 emails as long as they come from the heart and your wanting to play a more meaningful role in the community. It can be a letter to the editor once a month, or doing some research on a significant issue that’s not being covered.
