CREATING AN OCEAN OF PIE
The 16th Annual July 4th Pie and Ice Cream Social is produced by the Yachats Ladies Club and takes place inside the Yachats Commons between 10:30 – 2:30 or until the pies are gone on Saturday, July 4.
It is a rare and wonderful thing to have so many handmade pies available and displaying over 900 slices of pie is a real challenge. First, the cutters arrive at 7:30 in the morning and start slicing pies into 6 servings per pie. Then slices are plated and placed on holding tables in the kitchen. Display tables will be lined up along the south wall of the multi-purpose room creating nearly 40 linear feet with the width of the table allowing 4 slices of pie across. The pie variety signs are put up and display tables are then filled. This whole process takes several hours to complete, creating what the visitors say is an “Ocean of Pie” It’s an amazing sight to see so you may want to bring your camera.
