Central Coast Fire is out with its volunteers today getting used to fighting what doesn’t happen all that often on the rain-drenched Central Coast – wildland fires. But it’s been dry on the coast just like the rest of the state. So Chief Cannon decided to get his volunteers out there and get their faces in it. Wildland fire behavior can be docile at first, then break out in explosive run-ups in all directions at once. Deadly stuff.
Central Coast says they’ll be out there at the end of Spring Street for a few hours, training away. The foreground in this reader photo is the scraped clean foundation of the old Waldport Middle School which was also a Burn to Learn exercise last year.
