Open Burning Season to Close Early
Open burning, which includes yard debris burns and burn barrels, will be closed for the season effective next Monday, June 29th. The last day for open burning of yard debris is this Sunday, June 28th. This closure applies to all properties within the City of Newport and the Newport Rural Fire Protection District.
This winter and spring have brought unusually low precipitation to the area, and early summer has been warm and dry. Fire conditions are similar to a normal August for Newport. Out of an abundance of caution, Newport Fire will close the season early. In taking this step, we are joining all other fire agencies in Lincoln County. In addition, Newport Fire Department would like to remind the community and our visitors to be fire smart when using or watching legal fireworks. Remember the 4-B’s of fireworks safety:
* Be Prepared before lighting fireworks: keep water available by using a garden hose or bucket.
* Be Safe when lighting fireworks: keep children and pets away from fireworks.
* Be Responsible after lighting fireworks: never relight a dud. Wait 15 to 20 minutes then soak it in a bucket of water before disposal.
* Be Aware: use only legal fireworks and use them only in legal places.
