An old landmark is being torn down on Coast Street in Nye Beach – the old Coast Cleaners, which closed last year in a bankruptcy was apparently taken over by Oregon developer Greg Morrow of Eugene. Checking with Newport Community Development Director Derrick Tokos it appears there are no immediate plans to replace the buildings with something new. Likely the site will be converted to a parking lot to provide parking for whatever businesses are created across the street in the other part of the former Coast Cleaners complex. Tokos says so far Morrow hasn’t indicated what might be done with the property on the west side – or whether he’ll build something new. A restaurant has been mentioned along with some other commercial uses. There is 5,500 square feet of space to work with which is a lot within the cramped confines of Nye Beach.
So something to look forward to down there.
