Legislature passes state mandated sick leave provision – Joins three other states with similar requirement
One Oregon lawmaker said it was at least a little bit of progress toward easing income inequality in the United States. Well – at least in Oregon, which joins three other states in mandating that workers have a right to paid sick days if they or their children are sick. “It’s only five days a year – but it’s a start” said one lawmaker.
Republicans argued it’s too expensive for many Oregon businesses and will hurt Oregon’s economy because requiring paid sick leave will reduce employment.
But supporters claim it isn’t American to guarantee paid sick days for the well off while denying them to those barely scraping by on low incomes.
