The call came in early Monday evening that a man was clinging to an overturned fishing boat in Alsea Bay – and that he’d been out there for quite some time.
Central Coast, Seal Rock and Yachat’s Fire Rescue crews amassed on the south end of the Alsea Bay Highway 101 breakwater and launched jet ski riders to go out and investigate. And they found the man, chilled to the bone and in great danger of losing consciousness.
The rescuers quickly got the fisherman back on the beach and into an ambulance for a quick ride to PCH to be warmed up and evaluated for anything more complicated that hypothermia.
Some wondered how a fisherman in a 14 foot boat could capsize on a perfectly flat Alsea Bay. But that’s the subject for another day. Whatever it was, lesson learned.
