Leslie and Ken Hohstadt want to express their gratitude to the community and to all who donated funds, support and energy to help them overcome the sadness and disappointment that someone would break into their new business and take off with the cash register and other items. Lincoln County Sheriff’s investigators have arrested a Yachats couple, who are now in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of breaking into the Chocolate Frog, as well as other businesses in the area.
Here’s Leslie and Ken’s heartfelt thank to the community:
I learned something new. I learned that we are important here. That my circle of friends was wider than I thought. That there are people who don’t have businesses in Waldport or Yachats, but are determined to protect our backyard. That folks are willing to walk around in the wee hours of the morning to make sure no one cries at the sound of an alarm tomorrow morning.
Did you know there are people in our community of Waldport/Yachats/Seal Rock (from here known as WYSR,, whew!) that I don’t know but they care about me? They care about you? I didn’t know that. I liked to think I did but it was all on faith. There are people who care about how town looks to visitors, how much support there is for our small businesses, even if you made your bills today. There is a whole group of people that take turns driving about in the middle of the night to work side by side with our police force. I learned we have a local detective that loves her town and will not stop until the bad guys are caught! I also learned to say thank you. I mean, I knew how, but I haven’t experienced a whole lot of times in my life when it was mixed with humbleness and gratefulness.
I want to say thank you, to the friends and family and strangers who donated to help us with our door. I want to say thank you, to neighbors who came forward with information that helped our own Detective Abby get the cuffs out. I want to say thank you to Copelands for their neighborly way of making sure we had a door to shut and a new door to install. I want to say thank you to the midnight walkers and the daytime talkers that are moving forward to join Waldport Citizens Patrol or to create a beautification team or that shared shared shared posts about this time in WYSR.
I want to thank our advertising sweethearts that told everyone when my heart hurt and I couldn’t. I want to say Thank You to our sheriff’s deputies and Waldport Citizens Patrol who worked tirelessly. If there is anybody I missed, I am truly sorry. My head spins with everything we have received and experienced this last week or so. You know my favorite song is Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”. He is right, With a community like ours, Every little thing Will be alright. Thanks Bob.
