Despite decades of world-wide and just off-shore research, there is still far more unknown about Earth’s oceans than there is known. Hatfield Marine Science Center, in cooperation with federal and other research groups, this week dropped off the latest, and for the time being, last research buoy connected to what is called the Oceans Observatories Initiative. The data these devices produce will allow scientists to better understand ocean bio-diversity, eco-systems as well as climate – over the short term and long term.
