Oregon Coast Veterans Association Golf Tournament
The Oregon Coast Veterans Association (OCVA) and American Legion Post 116 in conjunction with Salishan Spa and Golf Resort are proud to announce the Soup Sandwich Tournament Scramble on Sunday, June 14th. This event is a golf tournament fundraiser supporting local veteran transportation to Oregon VA medical facilities.
Lincoln County veterans face significant challenges in their access to VA healthcare. While county veterans continue to utilize the variety of services offered by our VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics and their professional staff, referral services are often required to meet their patient care needs. This usually means a trip to one of several VA Healthcare facilities across the state such as Salem, Portland and even Roseburg.
Between changes in the VA’s travel reimbursement program and volunteer shuttle driver shortages to facilities, OCVA and American Legion Post 116 have partnered with community agencies to develop a local solution to a common problem.
Through collaboration with Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Linn, Benton and Lincoln Counties, OCVA and American Legion Post 116 have developed a pilot transportation alliance to assist our counties veterans in getting to their appointments at these distant facilities. All tournament proceeds will go directly to funding the pilot transportation alliance and prizes are available within a variety of categories.
The tournament will take place on June 14th at Salishan Golf Resort. Check-in will begin at 11:30am and 1st tee-off at 1:00-pm. The deadline for registration is June 1st. Registration is $100 per golfer with the first 100 entries accepted. Applications may be found on Facebook by searching American Legion Post 116- Newport OR, and may also be picked up at the Newport American Legion hall or Lincoln County Veteran Service’s Office.
