New Newport Pool Project coming in a little high – “We can handle it” – Tim Gross, Public Works Director
An engineering estimate for the total cost of the new Newport Municipal Pool has come in higher than expected, but city Public Works Director Tim Gross says he’s not concerned. “There are some things we can shave off the project to bring it back within budget and add the items later,” said Gross. Gross says none of them are critical to the functioning of the pool. He says a spectator entrance can be added later along with a few other elements.
Gross said the pool project is still being refined and the city has built financial reserves into the project fund so there will be enough money to cover the cost of the pool as advertised to the public. He said as the project proceeds toward its opening in the fall of 2016, there will be some minor ups and downs but that’s common for projects of this magnitude.
