Taft freshman Hatton earns second-team all-state golf honors

fill in

From left, assistant coach Rick Hatton, Shelby Wright, Maya
Hatton, Zoe Teplick, Rachael Adams, Mikayla Blackstocks and head coach Heather Hatton jump for joy after placing sixth at the state championships.

Freshman Maya Hatton shot 86 Tuesday and claimed a top-10 finish and second-team all-state honors in her high school state championship debut, leading Taft to sixth place in the OSAA Girls Golf Championships at Redmond.

“I feel like I could have played better; of course, there’s always something to improve on,” the 14-year-old freshman said. “But placing top-10 as a freshman is pretty cool. It’s just now sinking in what an accomplishment that is.”

Katie Collum of team champion Henley shot 75-72—147 to earn medalist honors by 10 shots over Hannah Clarizio of Molalla, who shot 84-73—157.
