An Otis man has been shot in the stomach and his accused assailant is in the Lincoln County Jail after an argument broke out between the two. Although Jon Walsh is in jail for weapons violations (felon in possession of a firearm) he’s not yet been formally charged with the shooting in that the incident may have been a case of self-defense.
Sheriff’s Deputies say that they got the call at around 12:45am Sunday from North Lincoln Hospital that a man had come in with a bad gunshot wound to his abdomen inflicted at his home in the 200 block of Yodel Lane in Otis.
After a quick evaluation and a call to Portland, the victim was soon aboard a Lifeflight trip to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. He remains in critical but stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Lincoln County Major Crime Unit converged on the scene and from witness statements determined that Jon Walsh, 41, a convicted felon, was the shooter. He used a hand gun.
But he was no longer there.
Officers learned where he lived – drove over to his home in Lincoln City – and soon had him in custody. They also learned that the incident may have involved an element of self-defense. So until they get to the bottom of what happened, Walsh is being held on charges of unlawful use of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, holding him on $150,000 bail at the Lincoln County Jail.
