The state is watching with great interest by some, and outright dread by others, as the Oregon State Legislature prepares for a final vote that closes a major loophole in regulations controlling the sale or transfer of guns between private parties.
It’s already the law that background checks be conducted on prospective gun buyers either at gun shops or gun shows. But gun sales between private parties using Craigs List, newspaper classified ads or just running in to someone who wants to buy a gun are not covered under Oregon law. It leads many to believe that Oregon is a major enabler for illegal gun sales because such loopholes don’t exist in Washington or California and it’s an easy drive across the Washington or California borders to buy a gun and then bring it back home fair and square.
