Newport’s Road and Driveway was doing some inaugural work last week at the site of the future Eddyville Fire Station. The Toledo Rural Fire Protection District, which serves about 55 square miles of East County (outside the city limits of Toledo), has been working for several years to establish a fire station at its Eddyville property just up Nashville Road from its junction with US 20. Monday’s work was a major step forward for the district.
As a traffic safety precaution, ODOT required better road visibility when pulling out of the fire hall driveway – so Road and Driveway took out some of the embankment that was blocking the view. Road and Driveway also dug a driveway apron at the site. A “sign-raising” event is planned for Saturday, May 9th.
In the meantime, the rural fire district is seeking grant funding for the new fire hall – definitely a work-in-progress.
