Alert to Local Artists and Artisans
Reminder: In March, the City of Newport announced that it is seeking proposals for artwork to be installed at the city’s new municipal swimming pool. Because the City has a “Percent for the Arts” program, and due to the high cost of construction of the pool, $65,000 is now available for artistic adornments to the pool facility – to cover art, artist’s fees, travel, and all costs associated with the fabrication of the artwork, plus installation and lighting. This is a great opportunity for local artists and artisans to submit their ideas.
All media will be considered – wood, glass, clay, tiles to surround the pool, metal, and ironwork, in addition to visual art that hangs on the wall or sets on display stands. This $65,000 must be spent on art for inside or outside the building, and it would be great if our local artists received the money because they, in turn, will re-invest it in our community.
The city’s Request For Proposals is available at www.newportoregon.gov. It’s a lengthy application, so start now. The deadline is June 1 at 3 p.m. For more information, contact Peggy Hawker at 541.574.0613, or email
