Taft High’s Grant Prins went five hitless shutout innings and Alroy Zacarias stepped in to complete a pitching gem Saturday for a 6-0 West Valley League baseball victory at Amity.
“Grant threw strikes and had a no-hitter going, but was just getting his pitch count up there a little bit,” Taft Coach Dustin Hankins said, “so we had Alroy come in there and shut her down. I was really pleased with the way they threw today.”
The Tigers, who improved to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play, made the most of five hits, including two from Zacarias, and three Amity errors in a makeup game that was postponed earlier in the week due to wet playing conditions. The Tigers scored three times in the top of the first inning and three more runs in the third. “We came out and scored in the first inning and that kind of set the tone for the whole game,” Hankins said.
