Tom Burns who was widely heralded as a very competent marijuana policy visionary, contributing quite substantially to the tough job of coming up with permanent state rules and policies about medical and recreational marijuana, has been suddenly fired by his boss – Executive Director of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
Genuine shock seemed to describe the reaction by state lawmakers who are trying to finalize rules for both medical and recreational marijuana. The legislature is trying to keep up with time lines laid down for regulation formulation and enactment of those regulations. Without Burns, many are shaking their heads – wondering why did the firing come at such a critically strategic time?
