A serious injury crash occurred Wednesday on Highway 18 near MP 6 (Slick Rock Road) at 1:26pm. The investigation revealed an eastbound Nissan Altima, driven by Monica Calzadillas, 31 of Vancouver, WA crossed over the center line and struck a westbound Toyota Tundra pickup pulling an RV trailer. The pickup was driven by Colin Hales, 35 from Sherwood.
When the collision occurred, the Nissan spun around at least twice before coming to rest in the center of the highway. The pickup came to rest off the north side of the highway.
The Nissan was also occupied by Carlos Calzadillas, 26 from Vancouver, WA and a juvenile female. All three occupants of the Nissan were transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. Monica Calzadillas was seriously injured and was transported, by ground, to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. Carlos Calzadillas was evaluated and released; however he was soon-after taken into custody due to a warrant for his arrest for violating parole and contempt of court out Clark County, CA. The juvenile female was transported with her mother to Emmanuel. The juvenile was not injured.
The pickup was occupied by Hanna Hales, 34 from Sherwood, and three additional juveniles. Hanna Hales was admitted for observation and one of the juvenile females was released after treatment for minor injuries.
Highway 18 was shut down in both directions at the crash scene for about 90 minutes until the wreck could be analyzed and documented.
Occupants of both vehicles were properly secured with seatbelts or child seats. Air bags deployed in both vehicles. OSP was assisted by OSP-Newport Fish and Wildlife, ODOT, PacWest, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, and Lincoln City PD.
