The Taft High baseball team took its aggressive running game, the left arm of Grant Prins and a productive bat of Pete Lahti against the big schools Monday, but defensive lapses proved too much to overcome in a 9-7 loss to Goldwater High of Deer Valley, Ariz.
The Bulldogs, taking advantage of their visitor’s defensive lapses on Arizona’s fast and hard infield, handed Taft its first loss of the season on a four-game road trip to Arizona, where the Tigers plan to watch some Cactus League spring training games on their spring break.
“We competed,” Taft coach Dustin Hankins said of taking on a school with an enrollment nearly five times the Tigers’ size. “It was a back-and-forth game. We put seven runs up on the board against a good team in Goldwater. We just gave up too many errors.”
